Tourist Activity of the Population of the Republic of Croatia
How often domestic people travel, why, where and when they go for trips, how long their trips last and how much money is spent on them are just some of the questions answered in the Tourist Activity of the Population of the Republic of Croatia Survey.
It is a survey conducted every three months, aimed at collecting data on private and business trips of the population of the Republic of Croatia, in the country and abroad, outside their usual residence, wheter the trips are related to visiting relatives and friends, going to the summer house, shopping, skiing, retreating to a spa, or attending an education programme, seminar, etc.
For example, the schedule for July 2025 includes collection of data on trips from which Croatian citizens returned in April, May and June 2025, while respondents who did not go for trips will be asked questions related to the main resons for not going on trips, such as lack of financial means, health issues or family or business commitments.
A total of 22 thousand households/persons were randomly selected in the sample from the database of analogue and mobile phone numbers, who were contacted by interviewers of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics and performed the computer-assisted telephone interview with them. The Survey includes persons aged 15 and more years.
The secrecy of collected data is guaranteed by the Regulation No 223/2009 of the European Parliament and the Council on European statistics and by the Official Statistics Act (NN, Nos 25/20 and 155/23), which implies that the Croatian Bureau of Statistics processes and releases the data in aggregated form and that it will be not possible to identify, on the basis of these data, the person who participated in the survey.
According to the Regulation (EU) No 692/2011 concerning European statistics on tourism, all EU Member States are obliged to conduct this Survey applying the same methodology, which enables the comparability of data among the EU Member States. Data for all EU Member States are available on the Eurostat’s website within the tourism section.
The Survey results are implemented in assessing the importance of tourism in the Croatian national economy, in various economic analyses and forecasts and as a quality background for adopting various policies in the tourism domain. On the website of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics you can find the results of the Tourist Activity of the Population of the Republic of Croatia survey, which are available at the link.
Data collection on trips in the second quarter of 2025 is underway, or more precisely, data collection on trips from which respondents returned in April, May and June 2025 are being collected in the course of July 2025
The crucial contribution to the Survey is the respondents’ active participation as data providers. Therefore, we invite you, if you have been selected in the sample or if you will be selected to participate in the future surveys, to spare some time and respond to questions. Your responses are a key factor for creating accurate statistics on trips of the Croatian citizens.
We are deeply grateful to all selected persons for their valuable participation in the survey.
