Income and Living Conditions Survey
The Income and Living Conditions Survey is carried out every year in the period from March to June.
It is aimed at collecting data on demographic characteristics, economic activity and educational status of household members, on their income, how they care about their health and children, on financial and material conditions, and on other living conditions aspects in the household.
In 2023, more than 12 thousand randomly selected private households participated in the Survey. In the period from March to June, they were visited by authorised interviewers of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
Participation in the Survey is important for future creation of social policies, scientific analyses, comparison of statistical income indicators with those in EU Member States and for informing the public on social progress.
It is important to point out to all who participated, or who will be selected into the sample in the coming years, that by participating in the Survey they contribute to compiling official statistical indicators on poverty and social exclusion of the population and to monitoring the income statistics in the Republic of Croatia, which are comparable to EU data.
The Survey results are applied in creating social policies at the local, national nad European level, in scientific analyses and international comparisons and also in informing the broad public on the status of social progress, i.e. progress in combating poverty.
The Income and Living Conditions Survey is in line with the regulations of the European Union and the Eurostat’s methodology and it is, at the level of the European Union, mandatory for all Member States as well as a reference data source which enables monitoring and comparison of the statistics of income, poverty and social exclusion.
The Survey is carried out by authorised interviewers of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in all counties and in the City of Zagreb. Every authorised interviewer has an official ID card of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, which must be displayed at the request of the household.
The Survey is conducted on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (OG, No. 25/20), by which confidentiality and anonymisation of collected data are guaranteed, meaning that all collected data will be used exclusively in aggregated form for official statistics purposes and that the identity of any household or person who participated in the Survey will not be disclosed.
The results of the most recently conducted Income and Living Conditions Survey will be released in March 2024, while this year the Survey will be carried out from March to June 2024.
