Income and Living Conditions Survey
The Income and Living Conditions Survey is a regular annual survey by which data on income, economic activity, educational status as well as financial and material conditions of population are collected.
The Survey is carried out on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (NN, Nos 25/20 and 155/23), which guarantees confidentiality and anonymity of data. All data collected by this Survey will be used exclusively in aggregated form, which means that it will not be possible to identify a household or a person who participated in it.
The Income and Living Conditions Survey is a mandatory survey set up in accordance with Eurostat’s notes on methodology and regulations, which ensures full comparability of Survey data with those from EU countries. This Survey is carried out in all EU Member States, and in Croatia it has been carried out for more than 15 years.
The Survey is aimed at collecting quality data that serve to calculate income distribution indicators as well as indicators of poverty and social exclusion. These indicators are important for monitoring and implementing economic and social policy measures of the competent authorities of the Republic of Croatia, in various scientific analyses and in informing the general public about the state of social progress.
In 2025, the Survey is planned to be conducted from April until the end of June by interviewing 13 049 private households randomly selected from the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in 2021. Data in the Survey are gathered throughout the Republic of Croatia by authorised interviewers of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, who are obliged to identify themselves by displaying ID cards at the request of the household.
The questionnaire consists of two parts, i.e. questions for households and questions for persons. Children up to 16 years of age do not answer questions in the Survey. In addition to regular questions for households and persons, specific topics, the so-called modules, are also dealt with, which change every year. In 2025, the modules are Health as well as Energy and the environment.
The results of the last Income and Living Conditions Survey carried out in 2024, in which the response rate reached 77.53%, are available in the First Release and Statistics in Line. More indicators of poverty and social exclusion will be available late in June 2025.
The 2025 Income and Living Conditions Survey results will be available in March 2026.
All additional information on the 2025 Income and Living Conditions Survey can be found in the leaflet. We would like to thank all selected households for their participation in the Survey.
