ESA 2010 - European System of National and Regional Accounts

The European System of National and Regional Accounts (ESA) sets down the harmonised methodology that must be used for the production of national accounts data in the European Union. Such a unique methodology at the European Union level is extremely important to achieve a consistent, comparable, reliable and modernised production of economic statistics in Member States.

ESA 2010 methodological manuals

In all Member States of the European Union, national accounts are compiled in accordance with ESA 2010 methodological guideline (Regulation (EU) No. 549/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2013 on the European system of national and regional accounts in the European Union).

On 26 June 2014, the European Commission adopted Commission Implementing Decision on granting derogations to Member States with respect to the transmission of statistics pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 549/2013.

The ESA 2010 is based on the SNA 2008 (System of National Accounts 2008) methodology, which was adopted by the UN as a recommendation proposed jointly by five international institutions.

Based on the ESA 2010 methodology, more detailed manuals and recommendations have been developed, which provide practical solutions for the application of general methodological recommendations and unique approaches to solutions across all EU Member States at the same time.
