Government finance statistics

Government finance statistics (GFS) provides insight into economic activities of the general government by presenting the usual sequence of accounts in a manner that is suitable for government financial analyses and policy makers. It also presents the general government accounts and statistical data on government finances, thus creating an integrated picture of the government economic activities: revenues, expenditures, deficits/surpluses, financing, other economic flows and balance sheets. The government finance statistics uses aggregates and balancing items defined within the ESA concepts, definitions, classifications and accounting rules so that they are in line with other macroeconomic variables and internationally comparable. Items such as savings and net lending/net borrowing are available in the sequence of accounts.
