The visit of the Peer Review Expert Team has begun in the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, to assess the compliance of the statistical system of the Republic of Croatia with the European Statistics Code of Practice. The visit will take place from 13 to 17 March 2023, and the main task of the Peer Review is to provide users with high-quality statistical data in accordance with the standards established by the Code.

Croatia participated in the Peer Review for the first time in 2015 as a new member of the European Union, and the official self-assessment process for the second Peer Review began in the fall of 2022.

In the first phase of the Peer Review, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, in cooperation with other producers of official statistics, filled out a self-assessment questionnaire, which was the basis for the visit of the Expert Team.

The Expert Team visiting Croatia will hold meetings with system stakeholders, prepare a report and give recommendations for further improvements.

European Statistics Code of Practice

The Peer Review will give the Croatian Bureau of Statistics an insight into the compliance of the statistical system of the Republic of Croatia with the Code. The Code is the basis of the common quality framework of the European Statistical System and it is an autonomous instrument based on 16 principles, which cover the institutional environment, statistical production processes and statistical outputs.

The Code was first adopted in 2005, and revised in 2011 and 2017. The revised Code reflects the latest changes and innovations in the development, production and dissemination of official statistics in the European Statistical System and beyond, such as the emergence of new data sources, the use of new technologies, the modernisation of the legal framework and the production of statistics.
