Retail trade in January 2025 increased by 4.4% at the annual level

Retail trade turnover in real terms has continued to increase for the 22th consecutive month

In January 2025, the total seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover of all business entities engaged in this activity was in real terms 1.4% lower than in December 2024. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food products decreased by 1.7%, whereas the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except for automotive fuels and lubricants) decreased by 1.1%.
 
In January 2025, compared to the same month of the previous year, the working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased in real terms by 4.4%. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 1.1% and the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except for automotive fuels and lubricants) by 8.7%.
 
The largest impact on the increase in nominal turnover in January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to gross, unadjusted indices, was recorded in the following trade branches: Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco predominating, with a rise in turnover of 6.6% and an impact on the total turnover index of 2.3%, Automotive fuels and lubricants, with a rise in turnover of 8.7% and an impact on the total turnover index of 1.6%, Dispensing chemists, medical and orthopaedic goods, optical products, cosmetic and toilet articles, with a rise in turnover of 7.0% and an impact on the total turnover index of 0.7%. Accordingly, the total gross retail trade turnover increased in nominal terms by 7.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.
