How to advance the quality in official statistics?

Croatian Bureau of Statistics participates at the 11th European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics 

The Portugese town of Estoril is the host of the 11th European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics, aimed at enhancing and improving cooperation between official statistics and academia as well as promoting a dialogue between users and producers of statistics. It gathers statisticians, academia and other external shareholders in order to foster the dissamination of knowledge and research on emerging issues related to quality in official statistics.

The participants at the Conference, which takes place from 4th to 7th June 2024, are Lidija Brković, Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, and Žaklina Čizmović, Head of the Quality, Statistical Standards and Geoinformation System Development Department.

Director General presented the cost-effectiveness assessment system of statistical products and processes introduced by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics at the beginning of this year in order to advance its business and at the same time contribute to implementation of the cost effectiveness principle as set in the European Statistics Code of Practice. In this way, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics will obtain quality data that will enable it to manage its funds, achieve cost-effectiveness and set priorities for improvement.

Žaklina Čizmović presented the Quality Management System in the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, which alows for monitoring and continuous work on its advancement, and offers suggestions for enhancing the quality of applied procedures as well as for additional improvement of working results.

On the final day of the Conference, Director General will moderate the session entitled '’Quality assessment and review'' aimed at looking into a number of innovative methodologies and practices focused on improvement of the quality of official statistics.
