Data are being collected on trips from which the population returned in October, November and December 2022

How often the local population travels, why, where and when they go on trips, how long these trips last and how much the population spends on these trips, are some of the questions answered by the survey Tourist Activity of the Population of the Republic of Croatia. For the surveyed persons who did not go on trips, the data on the main reasons for not going on trips were collected, such as safety reasons, lack of financial resources, health reasons, family or business obligations, etc.

The survey is conducted quarterly and it collects data on private and professional/business trips of the population of the Republic of Croatia in the country and abroad outside their usual place of residence. The last wave of the survey for 2022 is underway and data are being collected on trips from which the population returned in October, November and December 2022, e.g. on trips with the purpose of visiting relatives and friends, going to a cottage, going skiing and hiking, shopping, spa, going to trainings, seminars, religious trips, etc.

Using a random sampling method, 7 000 households/persons were selected from the database of landline and mobile telephone numbers to be contacted by the interviewer of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics applying computer-assisted telephone interviewing. The survey includes persons aged 15 years and over. The Croatian Bureau of Statistics processes and publishes data in aggregate form. Therefore, it is not possible to identify persons who participated in the survey. The confidentiality of the collected data is guaranteed by the Official Statistics Act (NN, No. 25/20) and Regulation (EU) No. 223/2009.

These data are an important source of information for all stakeholders in the field of tourism who deal with economic analyses and market forecasts. The data are used to assess the economic importance of tourism and represent a basis for the adoption of various economic measures.. All Member States of the European Union are obliged to conduct this survey according to the same methodology, which enables comparability of data across Member States of the European Union. Data for all Member States of the European Union are available on Eurostat's website in the field of tourism.
