19th IAOS-ISI 2024 Conference held in Mexico

Statistics as a public good 

Lidija Brković, the Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, is participating in the 19th IAOS-ISI 2024 Conference and the 4th ISI Regional Statistics Conference, which are held from 15 to 17 May 2024 in Mexico, organised by Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the International Association of Official Statistics (IAOS) and the International Statistical Institute (ISI).

The topic of this year’s IAOS-ISI Conference is "Improving Decision-Making for All”, with a focus on the role of statistics as a valuable public good all users rely on to make informed decisions.

The Director General participated with other heads in the event that took place before the start of the conference itself on 14 May 2024, at the session "National Statistical Offices in the Changing Data Ecosystem".

During the conference, the Director General has an active role. On the first day of the conference, on 15 May 2024, during the session "Movement from a register-based Census to the creation of a Statistical Population Register", she held a presentation "Development of the official statistics system in the context of strengthening administrative sources". On the last day of the conference, on 17 May 2024, the Director General will also lead a session "The role of national statistical offices in a constantly changing world".

The aim of the IAOS-ISI 2024 Conference is to build a new social contract around data based on value and trust.
