Historical overview of the development of the National Classification of Activities (NKD) 2008 – 2024
Since the beginning of the implementation of NKD 2002., the monitoring of activities in Europe and the world has continued. As there have been significant changes in the structure and organisation of the economy, as well as in the development of new technologies that create new activities and products, it was necessary to organise a major revision of the NACE classification.
The result of this major revision (known as Operation 2007, which took place between 2000 and 2007) was the development of a new NACE Rev. 2 classification, which entered into force on 19 January 2007 and which began to be applied on 1 January 2008 in all EU countries.
In addition to the aforementioned, the experts of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics prepared a new version of NKD called the National Classification of Activities 2007 – NKD 2007., which entered into force on 1 January 2008. Its application began on the same date as in EU countries, but, for statistical and analytical purposes of official statistics, concurrently with NKD 2002. in the transitional period until 31 December 2009. Thus, thirteen years after the preparation of its first version, NKD experienced a significant change in its structure.
By applying NKD 2007. classification, which in terms of content and structure fully corresponds to the NACE Rev. 2 classification, the quality and the international comparability of statistical data was ensured without any doubt. For the correct application of NKD 2007. in all statistical surveys and in the statistical business register as a starting point for all statistical surveys, the Methodology for Statistical Application of NKD was updated and harmonised with the Introduction to NACE Rev. 2.
