Krk – the island with the most tourist arrivals and nights realised in 2024

Data on tourist arrivals and nights on islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula in the period from 2019 to 2024 have been released 

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics has released data on tourist arrivals, nights and accommodation capacities in commercial accommodation on islands, isles and the Pelješac peninsula in the period from 2019 to 2024. The aim is to provide users with a more detailed insight into tourist trends at the level of islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula, including only islands and islets in whose area there is at least one settlement and in which tourist nights in commercial accommodation were realised.

In 2024, a total of 3.7 million tourist arrivals and 22.6 million tourist nights were realised in commercial accommodation establishments, which accounted for 18.4% of all tourist arrivals and 24.2% of all tourist nights realised in commercial accommodation in Croatia. Compared to 2023, tourist arrivals increased by 1.2%, while tourist nights remained at the same level.

Domestic tourists realised 473 thousand arrivals and 2.3 million nights on islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula in 2024, which was 11.0% more arrivals and 10.1% more nights than in 2023.
Foreign tourists realised 3.2 million tourist arrivals and 20.4 million tourist nights, with arrivals remaining at the same level, whereas nights decreased by 0.9% compared to 2023. The most foreign tourist nights were realised by tourists from Germany, as much as 5.1 million of them, which accounted for 25.0% of the total realised foreign tourist nights, followed by tourists from Slovenia with 3.3 million nights, which accounted for 16.3%.

In 2024, the most tourist arrivals and nights in commercial accommodation were realised on the island of Krk, i.e. a total of 913 thousand tourist arrivals and 5.0 million tourist nights, which accounted for 24.5% of all arrivals and 22.0% of all nights realised on islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula.
 
This was followed by the island of Pag with 3.2 million tourist nights, which accounted for 13.9% of the total number of tourist nights realised on islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula, then the island of Rab with 1.9 million nights (8.3%) and the island of Brač with 1.7 million nights (7.7%).



In 2024, a total of 114 thousand accommodation establishments (rooms, apartments and camping sites) with a total of 312 thousand permanent beds were available to tourists on islands, islets and the Pelješac peninsula, which accounted for 25.5% of all accommodation establishments and 26.5% of all permanent beds in commercial accommodation in Croatia.

The largest share of accommodation capacities was recorded in the group Holiday and other short-stay accommodation, with 75 thousand accommodation establishments (65.9%) and 209 thousand permanent beds (66.8%). The group Camping sites and camping grounds includes 25 thousand accommodation establishments (21.6%) and 74 thousand permanent beds (23.8%), while in the group Hotels and similar accommodation there were 14 thousand accommodation establishments (12.5%) with 29 thousand permanent beds (9.3%) were available.
