Strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism statistics in focus
An online bilateral meeting on tourism statistics was held on 28 and 29 April 2025, organised by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics Austria, which, in addition to representatives of statistical institutions, also brought together representatives of the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism of the Republic of Austria, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, the Institute for Tourism and the Croatian National Tourist Board.
At the two-day meeting, participants exchanged experiences and examples of good practice in the field of measuring the sustainability of tourism, with particular attention being paid to the satisfaction with tourism of the local population, the development of the Tourism Satellite Account, the use of administrative data sources, the implementation of
Regulation (EU) 2024/1028 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024 on data collection and sharing relating to short-term accommodation rental services and amending Regulation (EU) 2018/1724 (the so-called STR Regulation), and the establishment of the Central Register for the Hospitality Industry and Tourism Services.
The participants in the meeting stressed the crucial importance of cooperation between statistical institutes, ministries and tourism authorities in order to successfully implement European regulations and improve the quality of tourism statistics. Both sides expressed their willingness to further develop cooperation, with a special focus on harmonisation of methodology, exchange of data and experiences at the level of national statistical institutions as well as between ministries responsible for tourism.
