Love stories have inspired various artists for centuries - they have found their place in literature, on canvas, and in music. But, perhaps most popularly, many have served as the scripts for numerous films from which we remember iconic scenes, quotes and songs.
Being in the month of love, we have selected some of the most famous romantic movies, wondering if there was room for statistics here as well. Immerse yourself in the text and try and see for yourself.
The golden age of Hollywood was marked not only by great movies but also by legendary acting couples, both on and off screen. One of such couples were Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart in the movie
Casablanca. Even though the movie premiered way back in 1942, to this day, tourists arriving at this Moroccan port inquire about the filming locations. Although none of the movie's scenes were actually filmed there, a trip to Morocco, along with a bit of romantic daydreaming on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, is certainly a good idea. That is probably what the 679 domestic tourists had in mind when they travelled to Morocco in 2023 through Croatian travel agencies, realising a total of 4 070 overnight stays.

Dirty Dancing is definitely a movie that has been inviting thousands to the dance floor ever since the 1980s. The love story between a dance instructor and a young girl is still popular 38 years after its first screening, and we are positive that it has inspired many to take their first dance steps or at least try to recreate the most famous final scene. At the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, there were seven secondary dance schools in Croatia, attended by a total of 282 students. Students can also perfect their dance choreography at five primary dance schools, which had 426 students in the same school year.
A classic when it comes to romantic movies,
The Bodyguard, is another such movie that has marked the nineties, especially thanks to the song I Will Always Love You, one of the greatest hits of that decade. The turbulent relationship between actress and singer Rachel, portrayed by music diva Whitney Houston, and her bodyguard, played by Kevin Costner, culminates in an unforgettable kiss at the airport. It is a movie that many will happily rewatch in February, humming a whole series of love songs from the soundtrack. For the purposes of this review, we took a look at labour market statistics - 12 104 persons were employed in security and investigation activities in 2023, of whom 80.0% were men.

Titanic is all of that. It is an epic story about a magnificent ship, spiced with sincere youthful love that, besides going against social norms, also fights against the harsh forces of nature. The movie is packed with memorable quotes and scenes, and even today, the opening lyrics of the song My Heart Will Go On instantaneously take most of us back to 1997, when the movie premiered. Since then, the Titanic has truly become a part of not only film history but also pop culture, still sparking off debates about whether there was enough room for Jack on the now-famous door in the middle of the cold ocean. At the beginning of the 2000s, many fell in love with the love story of Ally and Noah from the movie
The Notebook. From youthful days to old age, everything is written down in a special notebook that serves as a reminder of the fact that true love is stronger than all obstacles, years of separation, and even illness. Maybe it will inspire you to write down your own love story, and if you're an old-fashioned romantic soul, you may well do it using a pencil and a notebook, because, according to provisional data for 2023, a total of 2 711 tonnes of notebooks have been produced and sold for a value of 5.9 million euro. It is interesting to compare this with the data for 2004, the year this film premiered, when we produced 3 326 tonnes of notebooks, which were sold for a value of 5.3 million euro.
In recent years, no film love story, nor the chemistry between two actors, has sparked as much reaction and buzz as the 2018 movie
A Star Is Born, in which the leading roles are played by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Both in the movie and in real life, the two work in the creative industries, so we checked the numbers for Croatia - in 2023, 4 119 persons were employed in creative, arts and entertainment activities, of which 50.7% were men and 49.3% were women.
