Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics is participating in the three-day session
The third session of the 3rd convocation of Government Council of the Republic of Croatia for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia is being held in Zagreb from 27 to 29 November 2024, with the Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics Lidija Brković participating in her capacity as an ex officio member.
Numerous current topics concerning the relations of the Republic of Croatia with Croats living abroad are being talked about at the session, such as institutional relations, preserving the identity of Croatian emigrants and their return to the homeland. The rights, status and position of the Croatian national minority as well as the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina as leaders in the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the accession into the European Union are also being discussed.
The Government Council for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia assists the Government of the Republic of Croatia in creating and implementing policies, activities and programmes addressing Croats living abroad. The Council members, who are Croats living outside of the Republic of Croatia, are appointed by the Government of the Republic of Croatia on a proposal from the Croatian diaspora communities in their countries of origin. They comprise about 55 representatives of associations, organisations and institutions from all over the world, who are respected in their communities and who are engaged in the preservation and strengthening of Croatian identity. They are also active in the work of their communities and in improving the relations with their homeland. Besides being the representatives of Croats living abroad, the appointed members of the Council are also representatives of state bodies, institutions, the Catholic Church and civil society organisations.
