The highest increase in the division Restaurants and hotels
In August 2024, compared to August 2023 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, increased by 1.8% on average, while, compared to July 2024 (at the monthly level), they remained at the same level on average.
Observing the main divisions of the ECOICOP classification, at the annual level, the highest increase on average in consumer prices was recorded in the following divisions: Restaurants and hotels, of 9.6% (contribution to the growth of +0.49 percentage points), Education, of 5.4% (+0.04 percentage points), Health, of 5.1% (+0.16 percentage points), Recreation and culture, of 4.8% (+0.25 percentage points), Miscellaneous goods and services, of 4.4% (+0.28 percentage points), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, of 3.2% (+0.16 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages, of 2.2% (+0.58 percentage points), and Communication, of 1.4% (+0.07 percentage points). The increase in prices at the annual level was alleviated by a decrease in the prices in the divisions Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, of 1.3% (contribution to the decrease of -0.22 percentage points), and Transport, of 0.7% (-0.10 percentage points).
At the monthly level, the highest increase on average was recorded in the divisions Recreation and culture, of 1.7% (contribution to the growth of +0.09 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as Restaurants and hotels, of 0.8% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.21 percentage points in the division Food and non-alcoholic beverages and of +0.04 percentage points in the division Restaurants and hotels), Miscellaneous goods and services, of 0.7% (+0.04 percentage points), Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, of 0.4% (+0.02 percentage points), and Health, of 0.3% (+0.01 percentage points). The increase in prices at the monthly level was alleviated by a decrease in the prices in the divisions Clothing and footwear, of 4.3% (contribution to the decrease of -0.28 percentage points), Transport, of 0.8% (-0.11 percentage points), and Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels as well as Communication, of 0.1% in each division (contribution to the decrease of -0.02 percentage points in the division Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and of -0.01 percentage points in the division Communication).
In August 2024, compared to August 2023 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices, increased by 3.0% on average. Compared to July 2024 (at the monthly level), they increased by 0.1% on average.
