14.9% more tourist arrivals and 11.9% more tourist nights in October 2023

The most tourist nights realised in the County of Istria

In October 2023, there were 1.0 million tourist arrivals and 3.2 million tourist nights in commercial accommodation establishments, which was 14.9% more tourist arrivals and 11.9% more tourist nights than in October 2022.

Domestic tourists realised 210 thousand arrivals and 440 thousand nights, which was 4.6% more arrivals and nights than in October 2022.

Foreign tourists realised 815 thousand arrivals and 2.7 million nights, which was 17.9% more arrivals and 13.2% more nights compared to October 2022.

The most foreign tourist nights in October 2023 were realised by tourists from Germany, namely 793 thousand nights, which was 29.1% of the total realised foreign tourist nights in October 2023. As compared to October 2022, the number of nights realised by tourists from Germany increased by 14.6%, after the decrease for fourth months in a row.

These were followed by nights realised by tourists from Austria (9.8%), the United Kingdom (8.3%), Slovenia (7.0%), the USA (5.4%), France (3.4%) and Switzerland (3.1%). Tourists from all these countries realised more tourist nights in October 2023 than in October 2022, except tourists from Slovenia, who realised 1.3% less nights, and tourists from the United Kingdom, who realised 4.9% less nights.

The County of Istria had the largest number of tourist nights in October 2023, as much as 696 thousand nights, which accounted for 22.0% of the total realised tourist nights in Croatia. Compared to October 2022, there were 9.9% more tourist nights in the County of Istria. The County of Split-Dalmatia followed with 668 thousand nights and the County of Dubrovnik-Neretva with 498 thousand nights.

Tourists aged 65 and over realised the largest number of nights in October 2023, as much as 690 thousand, which accounted for 21.8% of the total realised nights.
