The 32nd Dubrovnik Economic Conference held with the participation of leading global experts
Lidija Brković participated in discussions on monetary policy, digital currencies and financial stability
The 32nd international economic conference, a traditional meeting that brings together distinguished scientists, representatives of international financial institutions, central banks and the financial sector, was held in Dubrovnik from 29 to 31 May 2026. Lidija Brković, Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, participated in expert discussions during the three-day programme.The Conference was opened by Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank, who emphasised the importance of dialogue on current global economic challenges.
The first day of the Conference was dedicated to monetary policy in the conditions of high inflation, with discussions on the transmission of monetary shocks, the role of the exchange rate and the independence of central banks, with an emphasis on the digitalisation of currencies, the financial sector and housing affordability.
The second day of the Conference focused on financial stability topics, including the role of central banks in crises, public debt and EU fiscal integration, global payment systems, and the impact of digital assets, such as stablecoins, on the financial system.
The keynote lecture was given by Catherine R. Schenk from the University of Oxford, who spoke about the movement of money and the relationship between public and private interests in shaping global payment systems.
As part of the Conference, the 19th Seminar of Young Economists was held, where young researchers presented their work and research results.
Once again, the Conference confirmed its status as an important international forum for exchanging ideas and discussing key economic issues of today.
