Retail trade increased by 4.3% in May

Compared to May 2021, ten out of eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, the largest one being recorded in Automotive fuels and lubricants

In May 2022, the real working-day adjusted turnover of retail trade in the Republic of Croatia increased at the annual level, by 4.3%, compared to the same month in 2021, which is a continuous growth that began in February of the same year, after the decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to May 2019, it increased by 12.0%.

In May 2022, at the monthly level, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover was in real terms 2.3% higher than in the previous month.

According to gross, unadjusted indices, the total retail trade turnover increased by 18.8% in nominal terms in May 2022, compared to the same month of the previous year. Ten out of eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover, with the largest one being recorded in the following branches:
Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 40.1%), Textile, clothing and footwear (of 35.2%)  and Other non-store retail sale (of 23.3%), while a decrease (of 0.2%) was recorded in Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles.

In May 2022, as compared to May 2019, the nominal retail trade turnover increased by 27.6%, with the largest increase being recorded in the following trade branches: Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco (of 42.5%), Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 40.8%) and Textile, clothing and footwear (of 34.8%).

In May 2022, as compared to the previous month, according to gross, unadjusted indices, ten out of eleven trade branches recorded an increase in turnover. The largest increase in turnover was realised in the following trade branches: Textile, clothing and footwear (of 22.5%), Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 17.5%) and Other non-store retail sale (of 13.6%). The retail trade turnover decreased only in trade branch Motor vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles (by 0.6%).
