Retail trade continues to grow in January

In January 2022, working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased in real terms by as much as 2.0% at the annual level

In January 2022, working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased in real terms by 2.0% at the annual level compared to the same month last year, which has represented a continuous increase since February 2021 after its decrease caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to January 2019, that turnover was by 7.9% higher. In January 2022, seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover decreased in real terms by 3.9% at the monthly level, as compared to the month before.

Automotive fuels and lubricants recorded the largest increase

A total retail trade turnover, according to gross, unajusted indices, increased in nominal terms by 10.0% in January 2022, as compared to the same month last year. All of eleven trade branches realised an increase in turnover, of which the largest increase was realised in Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 25.8%), in Dispensing chemists, medical and orthopaedic goods (of 18.1%), and in Motor vehicles, parts and accessories (of 17.2%). In January 2022, as compared to January 2019, retail trade turnover in nominal terms increased by 16.7%, of which the largest increase was realised in trade branches Computer equipment, books etc. (of 24.2%), in Retail sale via internet or via mail order (of 23.9%), and in Automotive fuels and lubricants (of 23.4%).

Decrease in retail sale via internet of 33.6%
 
In January 2022, as compared to the month before, according to gross, non-adjusted indices, all trade branches recorded a decrease in turnover. The largest decrease was recorded in trade branches Other non-specialised stores (of 39.5%), in Textile, clothing and footwear (of 33.7%), and in Retail sale via internet or via mail order (of 33.6%). In January 2022, the turnover of retail sale via internet or via mail order decreased by as much as 33.6%, as compared to the month before.
