Best teams in the 2023/2024 season awarded

Medals around the necks and prizes in the hands of students, as well as big smiles on the faces of all participants are a summary of the awards ceremony of the seventh edition of the Statistics Competition. This is how the national phase of the competition ended, which brought together 452 teams and almost 1 300 students and their mentors from as many as 84 secondary schools.

More than two months of solving tasks, analytical thinking and teamwork resulted in placement among the best teams. Team GOSPODA from Electromechanical School Varaždin won the gold medal in category A, for students of 3rd and 4th grades of secondary school, silver went to team KEMIČARI from the Fifteenth Gymnasium in Zagreb, while team BIMBOLO from the Secondary School Novska won the third place.

The best team in category B, in which students of the 1st and 2nd grades of secondary school compete, is TRICEPSI from the First Gymnasium in Zagreb, the second place belongs to team TEHNIČAR from Technical School Sisak, while the bronze medal was awarded to the members of team TRIOSONATA from the Fifteenth Gymnasium from Zagreb.

Team IVESSA from the Secondary School of Economics Velika Gorica won the Public Choice Award in category A, while team KRIZA from the Secondary School Novska won the Public Choice Award in category B.

In addition to the awarded teams, who received valuable prizes such as mobile phones, tablets, smart watches and a course, sponsored by the University Computing Centre (Srce) of the University of Zagreb, other teams who showed enviable knowledge in the second round of the competition also participated in the awards ceremony. Such a large number of secondary school students at the final event and, in general, their interest in statistics makes us especially happy and proves that working with young people, promoting statistical literacy and encouraging teamwork really have fertile ground.

The members of the jury and the partners of the project also had an important role in the awards ceremony, to whom we would like to thank for their enthusiasm and support year after year.

With a nice gathering, exchange of experiences, but also some ideas for the future, we brought another national phase of the Statistics Competition to an end. The first and second team from each category will continue to compete in the European phase, and we will follow them and inform you about their results in June, when we will find out who the best European high school statisticians are! Good luck to our teams!
