Prices in September 2023 higher by 6.7% compared to September of the previous year

The largest increase (of 12.5%) realised in the group Restaurants and hotels 

In September 2023, compared to September 2022 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, increased by 6.7% on average, while compared to August 2023 (at the monthly level), they increased by 0.5% on average.

Observing the main divisions of the ECOICOP classification, at the annual level, the highest increase on average in consumer prices was recorded in the following divisions: Restaurants and hotels, of 12.5% (contribution to the growth of +0.63 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages, of 10.4% (+2.76 percentage points), Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, of 7.0% (+0.40 percentage points), Health as well as Recreation and culture, of 6.7% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.21 percentage points in the division Health and of +0.35 percentage points in the division Recreation and culture), Miscellaneous goods and services, of 6.3% (+0.39 percentage points), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as Transport, of 5.5% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.28 percentage points in the division Alcoholic beverages and tobacco and of +0.77 percentage points in the division Transport), Education, of 4.9% (+0.03 percentage points), and Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, of 3.6 % (+0.61 percentage points).
 
In September 2023, compared to September 2022 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices, increased by 7.4% on average, while compared to August 2023 (at the monthly level), they decreased by 0.7% on average.
