Prices in July 2023 higher by 7.3% compared to July of the previous year

The largest increase realised in the groups Restaurants and hotels, and Food and non-alcoholic beverages

In July 2023, compared to July 2022 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, increased by 7.3% on average, while compared to June 2023 (at the monthly level), they increased by 0.2% on average.

Observing the main divisions of the ECOICOP classification, at the annual level, the highest increase on average in consumer prices was recorded in the following divisions: Restaurants and hotels, of 14.6% (contribution to the growth of +0.73 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages, of 12.6% (+3.34 percentage points), Clothing and footwear, of 11.3% (+0.69 percentage points), Miscellaneous goods and services, of 10.0% (+0.62 percentage points), Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, of 9.3% (+0.54 percentage points), Recreation and culture, of 7.5% (+0.39 percentage points), Health, of 7.1% (+0.22 percentage points), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, of 6.4% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.32 percentage points in the division Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and of +1.09 percentage points in the division Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels).

The increase in prices at the annual level was alleviated by a decrease in the prices in the division Transport, of 3.7% (contribution to the decrease of -0.52 percentage points).

Harmonised index of consumer prices In July 2023, compared to July 2022 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices, increased by 8.0% on average, while compared to June 2023 (at the monthly level), they increased by 1.1% on average.
