Prices 3.7% higher in April 2024 at the annual level

The highest increase in division Restaurants and hotels, of 10.4%

In April 2024 compared to April 2023 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, increased by 3.7% on average. Compared to March 2024 (at the monthly level), they increased by 0.7% on average.
 
Observing the main divisions of the ECOICOP classification, at the annual level, the highest increase on average in consumer prices was recorded in the following divisions: Restaurants and hotels, of 10.4% (contribution to the growth of +0.53 percentage points), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as Health, of 5.9% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.30 percentage points in the division Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and of +0.19 percentage points in the division Health),Transport, of 5.6% (+0.78 percentage points), Education, of 5.4% (+0.04 percentage points), Miscellaneous goods and services, of 5.0% (+0.31 percentage points),Recreation and culture, of 4.5% (+0.23 percentage points), and Food and non-alcoholic beverages, of 4.2% (+1.11 percentage points).
 
At the monthly level, the highest increase on average was recorded in the divisions Clothing and footwear, of 5.6% (contribution to the growth of +0.36 percentage points), Restaurants and hotels, of 1.8% (+0.09 percentage points), Food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as Transport, of 0.7% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.19 percentage points in the division Food and non-alcoholic beverages, and of +0.10 percentage points in the division Transport), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as Recreation and culture, of 0.6% in each division (contribution to the growth of +0.03 percentage points in each division), and Health, of 0.5% (+0.02percentage points). The increase in prices at the monthly level was alleviated by a decrease in the prices in the divisions Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, of0.8% (contribution to the decrease of -0.13 percentage points) and Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, of 0.2% (-0.01 percentage points).
 
In April 2024 compared to April 2023 (at the annual level), the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices, increased by 4.7% on average. Compared to March 2024 (at the monthly level), they increased by 1.0% on average.
