In the third quarter of 2025, the total number of employed persons increased by 28 thousand
ILO unemployment rate was 4.2%
According to the Labour Force Survey, it is estimated that there were 1.72 million employed persons in the Republic of Croatia in the third quarter of 2025, which was an increase of 28 thousand, or 1.6%, as compared to the third quarter of 2024. In the same reference period, the number of unemployed persons in the Republic of Croatia amounted to 75 thousand, which was a decrease of 13 thousand, or 15.3%, as compared to the third quarter of 2024.In the third quarter of 2025, the employment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 69.4%, which was an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2024. The highest employment rate was recorded in the City of Zagreb, 75.7%, while in Pannonian Croatia it was the lowest at 62.7%.
The ILO unemployment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 4.2%, which was 0.8 percentage points less than in the same reference period last year. The lowest ILO unemployment rate was recorded in North Croatia (2.4%), while the highest one was recorded in Pannonian Croatia (7.2%).
The working-age population amounted to 3.31 thousand
The data from the Labour Force Survey also show that, in the third quarter of 2025, the working-age population (aged 15 years and over) amounted to 3.31 million. Of that, 1.79 million persons were active (the sum of employed and unemployed persons) and 1.52 million were inactive.
Regarding reasons of inactivity, out of the total number of inactive persons, 1.09 million (71.8%) were inactive due to age, illness, education etc., followed by 62 thousand persons (4.1%) who wanted to work but did not seek job, and five thousand persons (0.4%) who sought job but could not accept it in the next two weeks. The remaining 361 thousand persons (23.8%) were inactive persons aged 75 years and over who are, according to the methodology, not asked in detail about reasons for their inactivity.
