In the third quarter of 2024, compared to the same period last year, the total number of employed persons increased by 4.2%

The total ILO unemployment rate reached 5.0%

According to the Labour Force Survey, it is estimated that there were 1 691 thousand employed persons in the Republic of Croatia in the third quarter of 2024, which was an increase of 69 thousand, or 4.2%, as compared to the third quarter of 2023. In the same reference period, the number of unemployed persons in the Republic of Croatia amounted to 88 thousand, which was a decrease of 7 thousand, or 7.2%, as compared to the third quarter of 2023.

The employment rate was the highest in the City of Zagreb and the lowest in Pannonian Croatia

In the third quarter of 2024, the employment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 68.5%, which was an increase of 2.7 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2023.
The ILO unemployment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 5.0%, which was 0.6 percentage points less than in the same reference period last year.

The highest employment rate was recorded in the City of Zagreb, 73.3%, while in Pannonian Croatia it was the lowest at 61.8%.
The lowest ILO unemployment rate of 3.5% was recorded in the City of Zagreb and in North Croatia, while the highest one was recorded in Pannonian Croatia (7.4%).

Working-age population amounted to 3 292 thousand

Data from the Labour Force Survey also show that, in the third quarter of 2024, the working-age population (aged 15 years and over) amounted to 3 292 thousand, of which 1 779 thousand persons were active (the sum of employed and unemployed persons) and 1 513 persons were inactive.
The number of working-age persons in the Republic of Croatia compared to the third quarter of 2023 increased by 18 thousand, or 0.5%. In the same reference period, the number of active persons (labour force) increased by 62 thousand, or 3.6%, whereas the number of inactive persons (over 15 years of age) decreased by 44 thousand, or 2.8%.
