Adjustment to the new currency is over, as best proven by statistical data

In order to commemorate the work of prematurely deceased journalist Hrvoje Mateljić, Lider has been awarding prizes for the best journalistic articles on the economy for the fourteenth year in a row.

On this occasion, Lidija Brković, the Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, participated in the prestigious award ceremony for the best journalists in the economy, which was organised by Lider on 12 December 2023 at the Croatian Journalists' Association.

Lidija Brković spoke with Vanja Figenwald, Lider’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and explained the role of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in the euro changeover. The topic of the conversation with the Deputy Editor-in-Chief was “Croatia in Figures: introduction of the euro and inflation”.

"We can say that the process of adjustment to the new currency has been completed in the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, which is best proven by our statistical data. The release of the flash estimate of consumer price indices, which almost does not deviate from the final data on consumer price indices, is an excellent indicator that the Croatian Bureau of Statistics has successfully handled all the tasks”, said the Director General.

The winner of the award for the best article on the economy published in print and digital media in 2023 is Ljubica Gatarić, a journalist of Večernji list, while the award for the best journalistic report on the economy broadcast in electronic media (radio or TV) went to Marko Biočina, a journalist of Nova TV. The title of the best young journalist up to 29 years of age, as chosen by Lider, was awarded to Karla Zupičić, a journalist of Jutarnji list.
