2025 sees an increase in private trips with overnight stays abroad

In 2025, Croatian population aged 15 and over took a total of 5.4 million private trips with overnight stays. Of that, 3.4 million (63.4%) trips were realised in Croatia, whereas 2.0 million (36.6%) were realised abroad.

Compared to 2024, the number of private trips with overnight stays realised abroad increased (by 5.9%). Bosnia and Herzegovina was the most frequently visited destination (18.8%), followed by Italy (15.7%), Austria (11.4%), and Slovenia (10.4%). In 2025, compared to the previous year, Croatian population realised the most private trips to Italy, Austria, Slovenia, and Spain.

A total of 56.9% of Croatian population aged 15 and over went on private trips with overnight stays in 2025

In 2025, a total of 1.9 million of Croatian citizens aged 15 and over, or 56.9% of the total population in that age group, went on at least one private trip with overnight stays. Compared to 2024, the number of citizens who went on private trips with overnight stays increased by 5.8%. Compared to 2024, the number of private trips with overnight stays decreased by 0.6%.

Most nights realised in non-commercial accommodation establishments

A total of 29.9 million nights were realised on private trips with overnight stays, which was 0.7% less than in 2024. An average of six nights were spent on trips with overnight stays in Croatia and an average of five nights were spent abroad. The average daily expenditure on those trips amounted to around 437 euro (330 euro in Croatia and 624 euro abroad).
 
On private trips in Croatia, the most nights were realised in own summer houses and apartments and in holiday homes (32.5%), followed by nights realised at relatives’ or friends’ homes (26.9%). On private trips abroad, the first place was held by nights realised in hotels and similar accommodation (37.0%), followed by nights realised at relatives’ or friends’ homes (33.5%).

In 2025, there were more business trips in Croatia, and the number of business trips abroad also increased

Last year, Croatian population aged 15 and over realised around 589 thousand business or study trips, which is 1.6% less than in 2024. Business trips included an average of 4.3 nights, while the average expenditure on those trips amounted to around 734 euro.

There were 5.8 million of same-day visits realised in 2025

In 2025, Croatian population aged 15 and over made a total of 5.8 million same-day visits, which was a decrease of 24.4% in the number of trips compared to the previous year. Out of the total number of same-day visits, private ones accounted for as much as 91.1%.
 
Out of the total of 5.3 million private same-day visits, 4.3 million (82.3%) were realised in Croatia, whereas 938 thousand (17.7%) were realised abroad.
 
Average travel expenditure per private same-day visit amounted to 55 euro in Croatia and 92 euro abroad.
