Heads of national statistical institutes exchanged lessons learned and best practices in modernisation of official statistics

Director-General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Lidija Brković, attended the high-level meeting regarding "Integration and interoperability strategies to modernise official statistics", taking place in Seville on 27 and 28 November 2023. The event was co-organised by the National Statistical Office of Spain (INE) and Eurostat.

During a two-day discussion, the heads of national statistical institutes addressed ways of data integration and interoperability in order to modernise statistical production, with a view to developing elements that could give rise to creating a common strategy of the European Statistical System. They exchanged experiences in the integration of data infrastructures and best practices in enhancing data interoperability.

The Director-General participated in panels on the first and second day of the conference.

At the panel on "Experiences in data infrastructure integration" on the first day of the conference, the participants shared lessons learned and best practices in data integration at a strategic level, and in particular regarding the access to and integration of administrative and private data with traditional data.

In the light of the conclusions reached on the first day of the conference, the second day of the panel discussion was dedicated to elements of the data integration and interoperability strategy that could modernise and better cope with a new era of official statistics in the European Statistical System. The discussion tackled different perspectives of both users and producers, ways of implementing the strategy among Member States, and possible common solutions based on different legal frameworks.
