High-level meeting held in Dublin

The theme of the meeting was simplifying statistical requirements and reducing administrative burden in the European Statistical System

On 3 and 4 September, as part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, a high-level meeting of the heads of the national statistical offices of the European Statistical System was held in Dublin, with the theme "Simplification and Burden Reduction", dedicated to simplifying statistical requirements and reducing administrative burden within the European Statistical System. The Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics Lidija Brković also attended the meeting.

The meeting was opened by Jennifer Banim, Director General of the Central Statistics Office Ireland, and Mariana Kotzveva, Director General of Eurostat.

On the first day of the meeting, the proposed simplification package was discussed, with an emphasis on rationalising existing EU statistical requirements, as well as wider use of administrative and privately held data, simplification of quality and metadata reporting, and more efficient data transmission to Eurostat. Special attention was paid to the possibilities of data exchange between Member States and the application of technological solutions, including artificial intelligence.

The second day of the meeting was dedicated to the user perspective, that is, to the information priorities of users of European statistics and the possibilities of simplifying statistical products while preserving the quality, relevance and credibility of official statistics.

The closing remarks emphasised that the discussions at the meeting will contribute to the further preparation of the simplification package, which will continue to be considered within the European Statistical System.
