Decrease in the retail trade at monthly level, but increase at annual level

Retail trade turnover in real terms has kept increasing since February 2021

In June 2022, the total seasonally and working-day adjusted deflated retail trade turnover was in real terms 1.0% lower than in May 2022. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food products increased by 4.7%, while the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except of automotive fuels and lubricants) decreased by 6.4%.

In June 2022, compared to the same month of the previous year, the working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased in real terms by 3.8%, which is in line with the growth trend at the annual level, which has started as early as in February 2021. Out of that, the retail trade turnover of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 5.2%, while the retail trade turnover of non-food products (except of automotive fuels and lubricants) decreased by 0.3%.

In the first six months of 2022, the working-day adjusted retail trade turnover increased by 3.4% in real terms, compared to the same period last year.

The largest impact on the increase in the nominal turnover in June 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to gross, unadjusted indices, was recorded in the following trade branches: Automotive fuels and lubricants, with a rise in turnover of 41.2% and an impact on the total trade turnover of 8.7%, Non-specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco predominating, with a rise in turnover of 20.0% and an impact on the total turnover of 7.1%, and Specialised stores with food, beverages and tobacco with a rise in turnover of 20.4% and an impact on the total turnover of 1.1%. Accordingly, the total gross retail trade turnover increased by 19.6% in nominal terms compared to the same month of the previous year.
 
A decrease in the nominal turnover in June 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to gross, unadjusted indices, was recorded in two trade branches, and they were Motor vehicles, parts and accessories, with a fall in turnover of 0.8%, and Retail sale via Internet or via mail order, with a fall in turnover of 6.0%.
