Team GAVRAN from the First Gymnasium in Varaždin wins the third place at the European Statistics Competition

Three female students from the First Gymnasium Varaždin, gathered in team GAVRAN under the mentorship of professor Lara Novak, won the third place in the European phase of the Statistics Competition! It was Jelena Nakić, Leona Pačalat and Ivona Kurtoić who perfectly combined statistical knowledge and creativity, and with their two-minute video on the given topic “Well-Being" delighted the European jury, who awarded them third place in category A, for 3rd and 4th grade students of secondary schools.

It is a great end of their school year. Team GAVRAN first won the second place within their category in the national phase of the Statistics Competition and now, with their competencies, they earned their place on the European throne in a very strong competition of secondary school students from 19 countries. The first place went to Slovenia, and the second to Luxembourg. Our girls are followed by the teams from Slovakia in the fourth and the fifth place.

In category B, for students of 1st and 2nd grades of secondary school, the team from Greece won, the team from Italy was second, followed by the teams from Hungary and Slovakia, while the team from Slovenia took the fifth place.

The organisational team of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics is very happy about the success of the girls from Varaždin, thus, once again, confirming that encouraging statistical literacy and presenting statistics in an interesting and innovative way is worthwhile.
Once again, we thank all the participants of the sixth edition of the Statistics Competition, almost 1 300 of them, and to those who are already thinking about the new season and about applying, we recommend that they join us in the new statistical season in the autumn and follow the lead of team GAVRAN!
Congratulations to the girls!
