Continuation of the successful cooperation with the National Statistics Office of Malta
Holding of the high-level meeting on national tourism policies and statistics
The National Statistics Office of Malta, in cooperation with the Malta Tourism Authority, organised a high-level meeting on national policies and tourism statistics, which took place from 14 to 15 October 2024 in Valletta. This event is a continuation of the successful cooperation that started as early as in November 2022 and continued in April 2024 at a high-level meeting hosted by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics. The meeting focused on national tourism policies, the collection of tourism-related data and the production of official tourism statistics and the improvement of quality in this domain.On the first day of the meeting, national tourism guidelines were presented, followed by the eVisitor system, which is managed by the Croatian National Tourist Board, and its use in the Croatian Bureau of Statistics as a key administrative data source for the purpose of producing official tourism statistics.
On the second day of the meeting, the Croatian delegation presented its experience in conducting a survey on nautical tourism, development of tourism satellite accounts and the TOMAS survey, conducted by the Institute for Tourism. In addition, Croatian experiences from the accession process for membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) were presented in the part related to official statistics, with an emphasis on tourism statistics.
The Croatian delegation was represented by Lidija Brković, Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Marija Kamenski, Head of the International Relations Department, Edita Omerzo, Director of the Spatial Statistics Directorate, Ivana Brozović, Head of the Tourism Statistics Department, Filip Šimak, Head of the Department for e-Visitor and Application Solutions of the Croatian National Tourist Board, and Zrinka Marušić, member of the research team of the Institute for Tourism.
The meeting further strengthened successful cooperation in the field of tourism statistics, enabling participants to exchange experiences and best practices, and providing an opportunity to further develop tourism statistics in the European Union.
