A decrease in the number of unemployed persons of 15.8% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of the previous year

The employment rate in the age group 15 - 64 reached 67.8%

According to the Labour Force Survey, it is estimated that there were 1.67 million employed persons in the Republic of Croatia in the fourth quarter of 2024, which was an increase of 29 thousand, or 1.8%, as compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. In the same reference period, the number of unemployed persons in the Republic of Croatia amounted to 88 thousand, which was a decrease of 17 thousand, or 15.8%, as compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.

The employment rate was the highest in the City of Zagreb and the lowest in Pannonian Croatia

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the employment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 67.8%, which was an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.

The ILO unemployment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 years was 5.1%, which was 1.0 percentage points more than in the same reference period last year.

The highest employment rate was recorded in the City of Zagreb, 73.4%, while in Pannonian Croatia it was the lowest at 62.1%.

Similar to the employment rate, the lowest ILO unemployment rate (of 2.2%) was recorded in the City of Zagreb, whereas the highest one was recorded in Pannonian Croatia (7.3%).

Working-age population amounted to 3.30 thousand

Data from the Labour Force Survey also show that, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the working-age population (aged 15 years and over) amounted to 3.30 million, of which 1.76 million persons were active (the sum of employed and unemployed persons) and 1.54 million persons were inactive.

Regarding reasons of inactivity, out of the total number of inactive persons, 1.11 million of them (or 72.4%), were inactive due to age, illness, education etc., followed by 64 thousand persons (or 4.2%) who wanted to work but did not seek job, and 5 thousand persons (or 0.3%) who sought job but could not accept it in the next two weeks. The remaining 355 thousand persons (or 23.1%) were inactive persons aged 75 years and over who are, according to the methodology, not asked in detail about reasons for their inactivity.
