Harsh December air interwoven with the smell of cookies and mulled wine is the first harbinger of Advent. Christmas songs that follow us at every step even annoy some of us, but they are nevertheless an indispensable part of the December euphoria that has already been present for several weeks. How we managed to connect some of the most famous Christmas music hits with statistics - you can find out below.

There are many disputes over when it is the perfect time to start playing Christmas songs. Although many would like to start humming these notes already in November, they still hold back and open the season only on the first day of December. And when you hear Mariah Carrey’s soprano on the radio for the first time, you know there’s no going back. Her all-time hit All I want for Christmas is you reminded us of statistics on the number of marriages in December. Because, when the most festive time of the year and one of the most important days in every person’s life ꟷ the wedding day - are brought together, the result can only be pure magic.

And what is Christmas without the legendary George Michael and his Last Christmas? The same as home in pre-Christmas time without the smell of cinnamon in the air. In other words - it doesn’t exist! Flour, eggs, butter and sugar are the basis of all Christmas sweets, so in the spirit of the mentioned song, we checked how much the prices of these products have risen compared to last Christmas. Of these groceries, sugar prices rose the most in November 2023, by 19.0% compared to November last year.

Even the big traffic jams in December can be survived more easily with Christmas hits blaring from car speakers, and one of the most beautiful Christmas songs, which evokes memories for many, is Driving home for Christmas. According to transport statistics, there were 2.3 million drivers in Croatia in 2022, of whom there were slightly more men (57.3%) than women (42.7%), while the number of registered vehicles in that year was 1.8 million.

One of the biggest challenges in the week leading up to Christmas is certainly choosing the perfect Christmas tree. But you don't have to worry too much because the area of planted Christmas trees last year was 414 hectares. Just a few more steps and everything is ready for your gathering Underneath the Christmas tree!

And then comes the most fun part that both children and adults love - decorating the Christmas tree. Accidents can always happen, but don’t let the occasional broken bauble cause additional stress to you, because last year, we imported Christmas decorations worth as much as 10.9 million euros, which is more than double compared to, for example, ten years ago, when this figure amounted to 4.2 million euros. Therefore, there will be more than enough Christmas decorations and you can just indulge yourself in creating unforgettable memories, because It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

And if you've been good enough all year, maybe some presents will wait for you on Christmas morning. No one knows for sure how old he is or where he lives. But as we approach the day when Santa Clause is coming to town, we took a look at the census data and discovered that there are 32 men in Croatia aged 65+ whose last name is Mraz*.

According to the 2021 Census, there are 7 244 persons in Croatia whose last name is Božić*, and we wish you create your own, one, only and unique Christmas and spend it in peace, joy, love and togetherness.

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics wishes you happy holidays!
