Collecting data for statistical purposes
Statistical confidentiality is one of the basic principles of official statistics which ensures the availability of reliable statistical indicators as well as the trust of data subjects, that is, data providers. Data protection is a prerequisite for the trust, which the Croatian Bureau of Statistics should create when collecting data.
In order to be able to fulfil the basic purpose of official statistics and produce reliable statistical data, the data collected must be as comprehensive as possible, which can be achieved if respondents are confident that the data relating to them will be treated appropriately taking into account the implementation of the necessary protection measures.
Pursuant to Article 20, paragraph 4 of Regulation (EC) No. 223/2009 on European statistics and Article 71 of the Official Statistics Act, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics shall take all necessary regulatory, administrative, technical and organisational measures to ensure the physical and logical protection of confidential data.
